Before it was renamed Clissold House, the mansion in the park was called Newington Park House and Paradise House.
Clissold House was mortgaged in 1798, 5 years after it was built. It was subsequently sold by its owner Jonathan Hoare.
In the late 1790's Jonathan Hoare diverted the polluted Hackney Brook away from his new home, which was later renamed Clissold House.
