Thanks to everyone who came this evening to Stoke Newington History Talks No. 24. This is the ninth year I’ve been running the event, which, after today, has now featured 45 guest speakers and a total of 72 talks. This time, my talk was about the long saga of renaming Wiesbaden Road, which ultimately became Belgrade Road.
We also had brilliant talks from Tom Hilverkus (@Ldn_Boundaries) on South Hornsey—an independent local authority in the 19th century covering parts of Stoke Newington—and Tom Walker, chair of @AbneyParkN16, who spoke about the Abney Park restoration project completed last year. Recordings of the talks will be available in the coming days, and the next event will be in June.
